Deep Roots Festival

A long-time favorite of locals, tourists and college students alike since 2000, Deep Roots  is a lively cultural arts and music festival that brings historic downtown Milledgeville to life like nothing else. Boasting a 17,000+ attendance in 2016, it beckons travelers from all over with an antique car show, live entertainment ranging from bluegrass to rock-and-roll, artist market, and a “LittleRoots KidZone.” A day at the festival will allow you to see talent, art and products from national, regional and local individuals and businesses. For the third year, this year’s festival will host the Georgia Barbecue Association’s State Championship.

Festivities kick-off at 10 a.m. and the music pumps until midnight. Downtown streets are closed, allowing festival goers to dine in their favorite establishments or try a pop-up vendor, shop the festival arts or our merchants, and dance in the street.

Admission to the festival is an all-day pass, festival attendees may come and go throughout the day.

Pre-sale tickets will be available at the Main Street office beginning Monday, October 2nd
inside the Economic Development Center at 105 E. Hancock Street
Hours of Operation: M-F, 8am-4:55pm.

Main Street, the City of Milledgeville, Georgia College, & many downtown businesses are hosting this celebration to which all community members and supporters are invited.

This event is free & open to the public, but a $5 donation from attendees would be greatly appreciated to help support this event (and FUN) which continues to grow each year.

The 100 block of West Hancock Street will be OPEN to pedestrians, bands will play, there will be fun activities for all, and opportunity will abound for enjoyable time spent in the company of community, family, & friends.

Two popular local bands will be performing to get the street party started with toe-tapping & get-up-and-dance grooves. Opening at 5pm, The Local Folk will perform acoustic interpretations of classics and hidden gems by Milledgeville locals Charlie Adams, Jim Chapman, Nic Goodson and Christopher Karow.

Headliner Thoughtomatic will take the stage at 7:30pm. First Friday: End of Summer Shakedown

August First Friday Poster

With summer days slipping into fall, and a new school year right around the corner, now is a great time to celebrate the wrap of another summer season and combat the back-to-school blues. The End of Summer Shakedown in downtown Milledgeville will be filled with friends, food, and First Friday fun on Friday, August 4 from 6-8pm.

Under the direction of Mr. James McMillan, the award-winning Baldwin High School Band of the Braves will liven downtown with crowd pleasing favorites! Their upbeat music, dramatic drumlines, and wailing trumpets promise more pep in the step and the cheer in the crowd with a true display of esprit-de-corps and excellent showmanship in action. Other live music includes local favorites Charlie Adams and Carlos Toombs to keep the End of Summer Shakedown dancing well into the evening.

The talented Lisa Marie Barry returns to paint creative face designs, for the young and young at heart. As always, community organizations will have just what the kids want with engaging activities, entertainment, and no shortage of fun! Main Street especially thanks First Friday Champion Sponsors Magnolia State Bank and Robins Financial Credit Union, whose support keeps these family friendly, community events free and open to the public.

Allied Arts will present a concert by Freelance Ruckus, self-described as Southern alternative, Americana rock with powerful lead guitar, solid rhythm section, and vocal harmonies. Beginning at 7:30pm, in the historic Allen’s Market building at the North Wayne & McIntosh intersection, this concert is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and fills up fast, so head down to Allen’s Market to get yours.

While strolling along the picturesque sidewalks of downtown, listening to dynamic music, or participating in fun activities, be sure to stop in one of downtown’s restaurants with menu items offering the last tastes of summer, shop retail stores for final summer deal days, and beat the heat with your favorite frozen treats for the sweetest ending to First Friday. Milledgeville earned national recognition in 2014 as one of the finest downtowns in America and was awarded as a Great American Main Street City. In honor of our community being awarded as one of the top in the nation, our community partners are hosting a celebration to which all community members and supporters are invited. The Hometown Celebration is always a crowd-pleaser, with this year’s event on a Saturday, having extended hours, and has been moved earlier in the year, when the weather isn’t as hot, for a block party of epic proportions!

On Saturday, April 22nd, from 2-10 pm, the 100 block of West Hancock Street will be OPEN to pedestrians for the 3rd Hometown Celebration! Blind Driver, Scott Little, The Majestics and other live bands will provide music to keep downtown Milledgeville rockin’ and toe-tappin while there will be activities the entire family can enjoy. Local organizations will keep the activities going, downtown businesses will have limited time special sales, and the outdoor dining options will be plentiful. Be on the lookout for other Hometown fun too.
