November 24
Small Business Saturday

Did you know…

There are 23 million small businesses in the US at which 54% of sales happen? When you buy local, about $68 out of $100 stays in the community while only about $43 of each $100 spent at a chain retailer does.

When you shop local, the business owner is often directly connected to every employee in the store. That leads to a personal approach that often means better customer service. Avoid the frantic, stressful rush of Black Friday by shopping local on Small Business Saturday, November 24, 2018.

Stats from the Small Business Administration and American Express

  • There are 23 million small businesses in the country.
  • Small businesses have increased by 49% since 1982
  • 54% of U.S. sales happen at small businesses.
  • Small businesses have created 8 million jobs since 1990.
  • Franchised small businesses employ roughly 8 million people, and make up 40 % of all American retail jobs.
  • $14.3 billion was spent on Small Business Saturday 2014, making for an increase of $300,000 since 2013.
  • On Twitter, Small Business Saturday is likely to narrow in on 1 million tweets during the holiday season. (The most popular hashtags to use are: #SmallBizSat #ShopSmall and #SmallBusinessSaturday.)

June First Friday: Beach Bash
Begins at 5pm & Movie at Dark

Downtown Milledgeville is going coastal! Kick off your summer with a Stay-cation…because we’re bringing the beach to you.

For First Friday downtown, June 1st, 80 tons of sand will be dropped in the Post Office parking lot, so head downtown for a super fun beach party starting at 5pm. Bring your beach chair to relax while the kids enjoy beach toys, games, and more! Better yet, join in with the kiddos for some “Sand-sational” fun! Then, dig your toes in the sand and relax for a special showing of the movie Surf’s Up at dark. This event is entirely made possible by the generous donation of sand by Standard Sand & Silica Company, delivery by Fowler Flemister Concrete, the hard working City of Milledgeville Public Works Dept., and our First Friday sponsors. These sponsors & partners deserve a huge thank you!

For more information on First Friday and how to be involved, contact Milledgeville Main Street at 478-414-4014 or contact us by email with our online form.

Check out the Sand-sational fun we always have at the Beach Bash in downtown Milly.
